Χειμώνιασε στην Ικαρία και κλεινόμαστε στα βουνά και στις αγροτικές και τις άλλες δουλειές μας και τα βράδια βλέπουμε τα βίντεο στο κανάλι του @opsikarias στο youtube που σε μερικά από αυτά είμαι μέσα κι εγώ. 😉 Δώστε προσοχή στην ωραία μουσική! ❤️

Χαίρετε αγαπητοί αναγνώστεςτου μπλογκ του αγριμιού.
Είμαι καλεσμένος σήμερα από την τόσο σεβαστή όσο και ωραία οικοδέσποινα για να εκπληρώσω μια δύσκολη αποστολή: να περιγράψω τα φαράγγια και τις βαθιές χαράδρες του πολύπλοκου νησιού μας χωρίς σχεδόν καθόλου λόγια, παρά μόνο με ένα τίτλο και μόνο μία όσο το δυνατόν, κατά τη γνώμη μου, πιο εύγλωττη εικόνα.
Ιδού ο τίτλος, ιδού και η εικόνα. Αυτό ήταν το αποτέλεσμα, και εδώ κανονικά ολοκληρώθηκε η αποστολή μου.
Όμως, μόνο για χάρη των αναγνωστών, ώστε να έχει κάποιο μέγεθος το άρθρο, η οικοδέσποινα μου ζήτησε να παραθέσω μερικές φωτογραφίες από το facebook που δείχνουν αρκετά καλά – πάντα κατά τη γνώμη μου, εννοείται – αυτό που είχα σαν αποστολή να εκθέσω τόσο επιγραμματικά επί του θέματος.

Celebrating the beginning of summer and the end of the covid-19 lockdown in Greece, while our friends are back and our days and nights are busy, I am hastily writing up this post made out of three short topics.
The first
is that, on this occasion, I travelled into outer cyberspace and picked up one of my old profile pictures. I think it’s the oldest and, like everything, it’s also connected to a story, but never mind for now; you can just read the short version hidden behind the image.

The second and most important is, of course, about art; land art in particular – so suitable for Ikaria and it’s wild solitary landscapes. So, I am presenting here a few amazing stone works by the renowned visual artist Manfred Flucke, also known as Deva Manfredo, that I fished out from his facebook page.
Four out of ten were made in Ikaria, as I am sure I can recognize the site where the photos were taken, and that’s most likely Nas. Judging from the color and the kind of the stone, I also suspect that two others were made in Seychelles beach. The remaining four were probably made elsewhere in the world. Yet, they might as well have been in Ikaria because of the light, the shadows and the landscapes in the background which all seem so familiar. They are almost identical to ours!
On facebook, Manfred entitles this collection «OPERE IN NATURA» («Works in Nature»). I liked this wonderfully simple title so I chose to borrow it for my article.

I am closing this article with just another German artist, photographer Charleen Dahms. Last year probably, she took a photo in Nas, that I like very much.
The foundations of the ancient temple, hardly discernible among spiky spurges and broken pieces.of white marble, and two female figures standing naked on the top bathed in the dim yellow light of the setting sun with the little cave just below their feet…
I find there is something strongly primal and elemental in the scene. 
I think Charleen has captured the essence of this magical wild place.

Ήταν μια ωραία μέρα και ο καιρός (παρά την νυκτερινή καταιγίδα) ήταν πολύ καλός! Ευχαριστούμε όσους συμμετείχαν αλλά και τους άλλους που δεν μπόρεσαν να έρθουν αλλά μας στήριξαν και μας ενθάρρυναν. Ήταν σαν να τους είχαμε μαζί μας!

Πάντως, ήταν καλά, απ’ ό,τι έμαθα: ο κόσμος πέρασε καλά, κι οι ντόπιοι και οι ξένοι, όλα εντάξει, «ούτως ειπείν», που έλεγε ένας χαζός καθηγητής μου στο σχολείο
Δεν θα πω τίποτα, αλλά δεν μπορώ και να μείνω και βουβή. Ας γράψω και ας σας δείξω κάτι. Τι θα κάνω; Να, θα βάλω στην άκρη το hype για το οποίο όπως ξέρετε αδιαφορώ και θα διαλέξω να σας δείξω μερικές εξαιρετικές μικροστιγμές. Είναι μόνο πέντε. Όμως για μένα είναι αντιπροσωπευτικές. Αισθηματικές ή καλλιτεχνικές, αστείες ή πικρές, έχουν θάρρος κι αγάπη μέσα τους.Η πρώτη έχει τίτλο:
«Waiting for green light» 😊
.Η δεύτερη είναι βιντεάκι με τίτλο:

.Η τρίτη είναι ένα βιντεάκι του cha.vla από μια αυτοσχέδια διάσχιση του Φαραγγιού της Χάλαρης με τίτλο:

I haven’t blogged for long because I waited. I waited because it seems something good always comes up at this time of the year. In 2014 it was «The Day we took over the mountains». This year it was… KANGA! My friends Angelos, Xenia, Lefteris, Lina and Giorgos, all of them well-educated and experienced local guides, joined their forces and formed a collective. They are opening an agency of mountain tour guiding in Ikaria very soon. Hurray! 😀

Hello
Few weeks ago, I shared this photo, the “Sturmvogel”, on Flickr. I wanted to share it first of all as a gift to my island, and more particularly, if not more significantly, as a gift to a few special people, regardless if they will ever be able to see it.
I felt like I should share my Sturmvogel to show my gratitude.
My gratitude for all the moments, the actions, the initiatives, the performances, the interventions; for the dancing, the hiking, the photo-shooting, the exploring, the discovering; for the awkward moments, the embarrassments, the failures, the betrayals; for the endless debating, the jokes, the partying and the dancing; for the fight to make this small rock in the sea a better place to live.
Certainly, it’s not much. Certainly, most of it is erratic. But for me, just to know that these things happen, these people exist, makes my life on this island richer, happier and more liberating.
It makes the Sturmvogel put on her dream feathers and wings.
It makes the Sturmvogel run, take off and fly.
Making small changes, giving small examples, adding small touches of ingenuity, ephemeral flares of potential. Understanding the environment, communicating with the landscape. Studying history, culture and local lore. Being creative, sophisti-cated but un-technocratic. Enjoying the views, swimming naked, getting dehydrated, blazing lost trails across nowhere lands. Being small and big. Most of all, being un-materialistic, not funded, not subsided, not sponsored, non-profit.
Powered not by the odious “love for one’s home country” but by that primitive, shapeless yet powerful spirit, hidden in forests 
and rocks, known by poets and artists as genius loci.

Finding myself by chance as a witness of the first expression of this gutsy active spirit in 2007, and being the first to blog about it, I felt I should do it again, more loudly. Because this time we have the whole thing. And because this time I am not a tourist anymore. I am a permanent resident, and as a Sturmvogel in this spirit I fly; as a Sturmvogel in this spirit I nest.
