While I was with the baby, Doubting Thomas grabbed the cam and took this terrific photo of a tired, completely abandoned, koumpara Eleni. Is D.T. growing a talent in photography? Was it because of the subject? Or just any sensitive boy can take a photo like this?

ωπ! ευχαριστούμε Έλμα! Καλά θα κάνει πάντως ο πιτσιρικάς να παραμείνει οδοντοτεχνίτης. Η φωτογραφία ήταν μια εξαίρεση γιατί ήμουν παρούσα και τον παρότρυνα εγώ και «το μοντέλο» είναι στενότατη φίλη. Βοήθησε κι ο τόπος και το κέφι της στιγμής.

Καμιά φορά ρωτάνε διάφοροι ποιος είναι ο λόγος που γράφει η Νανά που πάει, τι κάνει, γιατί αποκαλύπτει μυστικά. Δεν θα ‘πρεπε, λένε, γιατί θα πλακώσει ο τουρισμός και η οικοδόμηση και «θα χαλάσει το μέρος». Δεν μας χέ…** -:) Ego ο Άπιστος Θωμάς έχω να πω:
(Uno) Όλα τα μέρη είναι «χαλασμένα». Ελάχιστα πράγματα έχουν απομείνει από το παλιό αγροτικό παρελθόν.
(Due) Τουρισμός, μεταφορές και οικοδομή είναι τεράστιες βιομηχανίες και βρίσκονται παντού στον πλανήτη –σύντομα και στο διάστημα. Αδύνατον να τις αποφύγει κανείς.
Άρα,
(Tre)το ζήτημα είναι να αποκαλύψεις <> ένα μέρος μήπως και <> και κάνεις να έρθει ο <> κόσμος και όχι ο <> κόσμος. Που θα κάνει τα <> πράγματα και όχι τα <>.

A. visited today. We went to an unbelievably beautiful secret gorge. The excuse was to see if there was water left after the heatwave. There was very little. But the vegetation was lush. No goats there. It seems that nowadays goats stick around roads. Anyway, on D.T.’s request, inside that gorge A. took this photo of me «people in landscape” style.

Ikarian otterWell, maybe it isn’t. Maybe those young students were looking the wrong way. To find an otter, you have to behave like an otter. Wear very little and walk silently, slowly and smoothly upstream inside a lost ravine. And it’s not only an otter that you might meet there. Ikaria is an Arc of Noah. It’s enough to know where to look. The otter in Ikaria is not a myth. This photo taken with my underwater chemical camera, proves it.

She is younger and less experienced than you and she comes from a conservative country where people don’t easily get rid of the clothes like you to do impossible wild river treks. Gooood! I was telling you since the begining. Take me, for exapmple. If there were poachers, they would have captured and put me in a cage since ages. I would make numbers in a circus or zoo. And there are no poachers who work for embalmers either. The hateful practice to kill and embalm unusual animals to decorate with their corpses houses and restaurants (!) is extinct -even in Crete where it used to be the rule in the past. Please move on :o)

Girl inside Thorns

.

Who doesn’t know the tale of The Sleeping Beauty ?.

Here you have the entry of the encyclopedia; here you have the classic tale; and here you have a modern (not Disney) cartoon (with an unexpected ending).

I am the opposite; a different version of the tale where the girl wakes up in the middle of the thorns, does not wait for nobody to save her, puts on her father’s dungarees and starts a walk across the deadly hedge. Skeletons of big ironclad knights are all over, tangled in the thorns, but she goes on slowly –very slowly- without breaking or cutting a single thorny branch, so the plants are not angry and do not attack her. She is swift and supple and she moves on and on. It took her a whole day, but there at last she is out of the hedge –on her own.

Since you have read up to here, I think you deserve a happy end. Here it is:

Once out of the thorn jungle EsoR RairB meets Doubting Thomas who was standing there, doubting whether to enter the thorns or not. He was thinking : “Maybe this is a trap; a conspiracy to get rid of all the knights of the country. I rather wait until somebody comes back; I will ask him what he saw. Maybe there is no girl in there at all. Maybe it’s a hoax.”

But there I was in front of him! We fell in love with each other and we have been together ever since.

What I most love D. T. for is when he touches me with his fingertips looking for tiny scratches and scars all over my skin.

The palace with everybody asleep inside and the hedge of thorn bushes with the roses and the skeletons is a museum now. We can’t live on just love –even us fairy-tale beings nowadays. When the curse is over, we will see what we do….

Eleni (‘isl_gr’) who likes clothes (in both the literally and metaphorically) “dressed us up” in this tale in Ikaria last spring. Only the “Doubting Thomas touches wonderfully” is mine; it’s kinda cheap «meta-title» perhaps, but we thought it’s all right. We are not rich folks anyway.
